About Us

Stephanie Van Horn has been a passionate advocate for education in the state of North Carolina since 1994. She honed her dynamic teaching skills in kindergarten, second, third, and fourth grade classrooms. As a lifelong learner, Van Horn earned her Master’s degree in Elementary Education in 2002 and went through the vigorous National Board Certification program in 2000, 2010, and again in 2020. Aware that her students were watching her chase knowledge gave Van Horn a great sense of accomplishment. As a result of Van Horn's scholars having consistent high academic and behavioral growth, she was promoted to serve in a leadership role as an Expanded Impact Teacher in the second largest school district in the state, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, during the height of the pandemic in 2020. This leadership role gave her the opportunity to positively impact students beyond her own classroom setting. She taught and monitored learning in five hybrid third grade classrooms. She also supported their teachers by utilizing and modeling best practices in the educational setting.
Van Horn is excited and equipped to expand her ability to serve students through Wellspring Preparatory School in a way that will enable the world to shine. Wellspring Prep is an innovative microschool created to move students to higher levels of excellence. As an educational entrepreneur Van Horn has taken the best of public schools and the best of homeschools and created space for pupils to thrive. WPS stands out for several reasons. First of all, it is a place where innovative research based curriculum will be used in a personalized authentic learning environment. In addition, due to the small size of the facility, the staff are in the perfect position to adapt nimbly to meet the needs of scholars on an ongoing basis. Furthermore, WPS is thrilled to be an integral part of the community. Numerous opportunities will be integrated within the school year for families and community partners to enrich the educational and personal journeys of the scholars. Finally, we are proud to join the microschool movement with the unique twist of doing it in a rural area. We firmly believe that all children deserve the best in education. Van Horn’s vision for WPS is that it will hold fast to traditional values that America was built on, while providing an innovative curriculum that will cause them to thrive.  Ultimately, Van Horn is focused on preparing her pupils to thrive as leaders in an ever growing, complex world. Van Horn has gained the wisdom to realize that this opportunity to serve children in this new chapter of her career is both a privilege and blessing.

Our mission is to authentically partner with parents about the needs of their children by focusing on traditional family values. We will also have a strong STEM focus to prepare our students to thrive!
